I’ve taken to walking around cemeteries. I’ve always done this but now have added this facet to my trips out to Kansas. I was actually headed to a cemetery in Syracuse, KS- got lost and so as I headed back to Garden City on Highway 50 I came across another one in Kendall, KS. This happens to be where the time zone changes from Mountain to Central Time.
Just out in the middle of nowhere. Off in the distance are the wind turbines and that’s it! Yet it was inviting which is why I made a special trip to look at it. It’s on Kansas 96 near Leoti, KS
This is one of the larger ones – It’s in Syracuse, Kansas. Having spent 19 years in Syracuse, NY I was curious about the names. Turns out that residents of the NY Syracuse settled here in SW Kansas just inside from the Colorado border. Their other claim to fame as that sometime in the late 1800’s they had an all female city council.
As is typical I’m always trying out new film. I know I should stick with the tried and true but I can’t help it. On this last trip to the Pawnee Grasslands I shot Try-X, Metropolis 100-400 and Rollei InfraRed 400. I wanted to share those IR shots in this blog
A little background about the Sligo Cemetery : Sligo Cemetery is located in Township 10N, Range 60W, Section 31 near the town of Grover. There used to be a town name Sligo here. According to history the town was named after a county in Ireland. Presumable some of the residence were from that area or Ireland.
